Just like what happened when Napoleon tried to take Moscow during the Winter of 1812. I've seen the barrels his canons stacked like cordwood in the courtyard inside the walls of the Kremlin. As a Russian told me at the time, these were the canons that Napoleon left in the snow after their retreat from Moscow, and they were piled up like that so that for generations to come, the citizens of Moscow would be reminded of how badly Napoleon was defeated.
