reminds me of the way the us justice department demanded access to information stored by companies like microsoft for and by irish people living in ireland. and the way the us spied on petrobras in brazil.

guess what. it makes folks angry.

so the us loses in other ways.

in the end, people decide they will reject us technology companies or build cables that avoid the us etc.

facebook, apple, microsoft and cisco are damaged because the us government treats foreign people as if they are subject to us jurisdiction.

so apple manufactures devices the us cannot penetrate to retain its credibility in international markets.

being insensitive to borders is self-destructive.

hi clo,

the bank thing is often just as bogus. wire transactions pass through various intermediaries. the sender usually has no idea who those intermediaries are. if they happen to have a us presence, the us claims it is a us bank transaction. so when the us government calls it a us bank transaction, it doesn't have to mean what you think it means.

in the case of the uk law, it was pushed upon the uk by the us during the blair administration and has been hated by british people ever since. british people should not need to conform with us law. we don't live in dodge. we have our own laws which are just as coherent as those in the us.

there's an imperial understanding which you aren't seeing in your mirror but which is present in many of your posts all the same. calling countries like the uk and switzerland dodge is incredible. you are not an arrogant person but it is an incredibly arrogant and self-centred assumption.

the us is just a country like any other. it damages itself when it extends its judicial reach beyond its own shores. especially when it applies those laws in law-abiding democracies.

fifa seems to have been a swiss organisation so the swiss should have dealt with it. i gather that they are looking at the awards of the 2018 and 2022 world cups, at least.
