Poll: Majority of Voters Say Candidates’ Iraq Position Matters

The entire Republican presidential field is currently facing the question of whether the Iraq war was wise, all thanks to an interview Megyn Kelly did with Jeb Bush. Pretty much every candidate on the Republican side has been pressed on whether they think that war was wise, with varying degrees of success.
Hillary Clinton, of course, infamously had to answer for her vote to authorize the Iraq War in her last race, but she hasn’t been asked this time because… well, the obvious.
Now, of course, the big question for many pundits is why candidates are being asked about Iraq in the first place. It happened years ago, it’s a matter of hindsight, and we have more pressing threats now, right?
Well, a new Rasmussen poll reveals that a majority of likely voters actually think the candidates’ positions on Iraq are important and relevant.
64 percent say their position is significant, which includes 26 percent who say it’s “very important.”
In addition, 61 percent say the Iraq war will be considered a failure. 47 percent believe that based on the intelligence provided at the time, the U.S. should not have gone into Iraq, as opposed to 41 percent who said they should.
