by comparing this woman to westboro, methinks you are seeking to undermine her standing in order to evade the principle she espouses. it is a classic ruse. i saw rachel maddow do it rather obviously. her trick was to confuse racism with scepticism about islam. islam, of course, is not a race. but she used that brush to taint this woman.
at one point, clo, you were charlie hebdo. what changed for you when confronted with a person who encourages folks to draw cartoons like the ones charlie hebdo published? it turns out that now you have a different perspective!
the first amendment is there to protect free expression. she is exercising it the way it is intended to be exercised.
the difficulty for people like rachel maddow is they are desperate to preserve the fiction that if, without regard to reality, you believe in a tolerant society, everything will be okay. but the one thing tolerance cannot abide is intolerance. and in fundamentalist islam, that is the issue.
anyone that fights back is on the side of freedom.
westboro is a different case entirely. no need to go there.
