what is it with pundits deciding arsenal needs a new spine.
what the heck? a football team isn't a body.
we have fabulous players in the middle that suit wenger's style. koscielny is fabulous. coquelin has the best stats for a dm. santi is alongside him and bears no criticsm - try to get the ball from him. ozil is fabulous ahead of them. and giroud feeds the attacking midfield and pops in with a very decent number of goals alongside that.
we have a team that has outpointed every other one in europe over the last ten games. but the criticism is unchanged from the beginning of the season, before coquelin emerged, before we purchased gabriel etc.
we all know that arsenal started slowly because a ridiculous number of key players were injured.
aside from which, arsenal's game isn't straight through the damn middle. it involves people like ramsey and sanchez either side of giroud, as well as our excellent full-backs.
we all know the ten year gap since the last title is due to the fact we were building a stadium and fell off the pace, financially. wenger's excellent youngsters who he thought were ready to replace the invincibles, took the money option as soon as they were able and disappeared off to chelsea (cole), barcelona (eg hleb, fabregas and song), ac milan (flamini) man utd (van persie) and man city (clichy, nasri, adebayor etc).
but now arsenal is able to purchase top players again and the younger players are more loyal. and we are moving back up the league table.
chelsea is a challenge. good team. but i think arsenal is up to the same standard. neither team can easily improve without buying a superstar.
next season ought to be an exciting competition.
(footnote - how many of the folks who left arsenal in the mid 2000s played better afterwards?)
