Here's a shot taken this morning from my hotel in Houghton, MI, showing the school's ski hill (I think the season is pretty much over):

Here's a second shot showing the old hockey stadium where they held the commencement when I graduated in 1971:

Up on the hill above the lake, you can see the shaft house for the Quincy Mine, one of the deepest shaft mines in the US, over 6,000 feet deep. They mined copper there until just after WWII. It's now filled with water up to the 7th level (there were a total of 23 levels). I've been down to that 7th level a few years ago during one the tours that they occasionally hold (I was lucky to be in town when they had arranged one).

Anyway, I made it to Houghton, MI with only a bit of snow in the air (but lots of it on the ground). The roads were basically dry and the temps stayed well enough above freezing so there was no ice problems. Normally it's about a 404 mile drive (one way) but there was bridge closed in Northern Wisconsin and had to take a 31 mile detour which cost me almost an hour of time as I had to pass through a bunch of small towns. I hope they have it fixed for my drive back on Friday.
