I am sure they are grieving now. But in some ways, the awfulness ought to be lessened knowing that he was mentally ill. He wasn't evil. He had a mental fault.

It's a tragedy. They can love him and not feel quite so awful as if it was a deliberate act of terror.

On the other hand, it will doubtless enrage the families of the victims against the company that didn't spot the issue.

I've been thinking of his family.
They have lost a son & carry the burden of his destruction of 149 people along with their families & friends.
Their grief will be overwhelming, once the shock wears off.
