It's about time!

Where I live, in Irvine, CA, Chase has opened, and often built from scratch, at least six full service branches within a mile or two of our house during the last couple of years. For awhile there they were breaking ground on a new building before the paint was even dry on the last one. It got to be joke between my wife and I that every time we saw some new building being started or some existing building being renovated, that it was going to be another 'Chase' branch, and we were right more often then you'd think.

Disclaimer: JPMorgan Chase is the institution which holds our mortgage (it didn't start out that way, but over the years, as the result of a series of bank mergers and buyouts, it ended-up that way) and we have both checking and savings accounts with them (again as a result of these M&A activity). And our concern, as a 'loyal' customer, has been that it appears to be a gross waste of resources that could have been used to pay better interest on saving/checking accounts or lower interest rates on loans and mortgages.

NEW YORK — JPMorgan Chase is planning to close 300 bank branches, or about 5 percent of the total, over the next two years, as more customers move to online and mobile banking and the bank looks to reduce its overall expenses.
