hi clo,

oh dear. i saw birdman twice in the cinema which i've almost never done. loved everything about it.

the imitation game is quite close to life with the usual artistic license over the personalities involved. if this wasn't a message board i could tell you a funny story about one of the characters portrayed. the story of an eccentric genius and the triumph of his/her big idea - in spite of objections of mediocre folks and the difficulty of an unusual personality - is getting a bit long in the tooth. i've seen russell crowe do it and gwyneth paltro. normally it's a mathematical formula. this time it was a big machine based on mathematical formulae. but it was well done and easy to digest.

i haven't seen the others. i enjoy the genre of america with its roman-like virtues being perplexed by eastern cultures. lots of movies of that type as well. once the incomprehension focussed on vietnam eg apocalypse now. now it is islam eg black hawk down, zero dark thirty. not sure if this is another one of the same ilk. or just a celebration of a soldier doing a lot of killing of people who aren't dignified with a 4D personality. or something different altogether.

Hi Cactus Flower,

We have different taste, I thought it was awful! haha
based on narcissistic dysfunctional people.
Three others that saw it, 2 hated it, one saw artistic merit. Two are members of SAG, the one that liked it is a playwright.

I also watched Boyhood, what a bloody bore & waste of time. (all of us thought so)

American Sniper was well done, and not usually my type of movie.

I heard The Imitation Game was wonderful & based on real life. (by the three)

I expected the best actors male & female to go to the winners.

The Oscar's was filled with important speeches & wonderful musical talents.
Lady Gaga blew me away!
And Glory brought me to tears, too.
