People get so hung about this yet something like 12 states still recognize 'common law' marriages where there's not even a license issued, yet in those states the couples get all the same rights and privileges as people married in a church. How can someone in one of those states suddenly use the claim 'the sanctity of marriage' when it comes to objecting to same-sex couples?

It is a rights issue.

It is a social issue only for some.

Years ago we had no civil marriages, only religious. Now we do. Do you think getting married in Vegas by a charleton is a real marriage? Is that marriage in your book? Is that equal to a church marriage?

Start dealing with those questions before you touch civil rights.
