Yes, but just because someone has never married does not mean that they're somehow undermining the marriage of others. My brother is unmarried. Out closest family friend is unmarried. I work with many people of all ages who have chosen to not marry and I would not consider anyone of them a threat to our nearly 48 year marriage. I think you're reading too much into this idea that people are choosing, for one reason or another, to not marry. And just because someone is not married does not automatically mean that they're "living in sin" with someone else. In the case of the two people whom I explicitly mention above, both are living a 'celibate' life, one by design and one by chance. Are you suggesting that those who are unmarried yet celibate are contributing to this threat that you see to what you think is the strength of our society? I'm sorry, but I suspect that a lot more unmarried people are living a chaste and celibate life then you can bring yourself to believe or accept.

OCU:

I guess I'm just one of those old fashioned Defense Of Marriage types, seeing goodness and stability in traditional marriages. This invokes all kinds of out-of-date, discredited values such as man and woman, male breadwinners, some notion of male responsibility, head of households, and stuff.

But I guess it's OK if marriage for many young people is now out of the picture, to be replaced by absolutely nothing of merit. We'll have a new society - It will be swell!
