SolidWorks is a competitor and as such we are NOT allowed to attend, not by the SolidWorks people, but our own ethics and compliance officer has banned any Siemens PLM employees from attending any event sponsored by a competitor. What we do now is simply buy the reports from the independent analysts who attend and then sell their opinions and views as to what they saw or heard.
Years ago, when we were still part of McDonnell Douglas, I used to attend competitors conferences all the time, never hiding the fact that I worked for MDC, but then we were a large company where somewhere in our various divisions and programs virtually all of our competitor's software was being used somewhere, so no one ever questioned why we were there. Of course, I never mentioned that I worked in the commercial software division of MDC. But that all stopped when we were acquired by Siemens. They're paranoid about even the appearance of anything that might be seen as unethical. But working for a German company, having to deal with paranoid personalities comes with the job
