...was the law that requires restaurant workers to wash their hands after they've gone to the bathroom. He thinks that's a classic example of how big government is forcing small business owners to do things that hurt their ability to make a living. THIS IS THE EXAMPLE HE USED TO MAKE HIS POINT!!!!

When asked what he would do if there were NO regulations forcing restaurant employees to wash their hands after visiting the restroom and as a result, this was causing concern among patrons who might worry whether they were or were not doing so, you know what his solution was? He said that the restaurant owner should simply post a notice stating whether he was requiring his workers to wash their hands after visiting the restroom or not, thus allowing the public to decide for themselves if they wanted to eat at that particular establishment or not, just as long as the restaurant owner was NOT BEING REQUIRED to FORCE his employees to waste time washing their hands. He said that this is how the 'market forces' would solve the problem, in that people could then choose which places to eat at or not. But when it was pointed out to the Senator that there would be nothing stopping an unscrupulous restaurant owner from lying when he put up his signs, if he put up any at all, his response was that perhaps we might need a law to make sure that what the sign stated was actually true or not. WELL DUH????
