Hi Cactus Flower,

Initially I wanted to see the Hawking movie, but they flooded the market with ads & I'm sick of it...
but the actor had many challenges to hone his craft & isn't that the reason for awards?

Reminds me of the wonderful flick My Left Foot!
Daniel Day-Lewis was brilliant! Hard to believe that was released in 1989, time flies.

Gosh remembering Scent of a Woman with Al Pacino, another great movie.

I have Boyhood on request at the library, looking forward to that one.

I've heard mixed reviews on Birdman, mostly good, but the folks that didn't like, really didn't.

hi clo,

i heard the same thing although i doubt anyone in hollywood is going to snub a film for artistic licence/ historical inaccuracy!

it sounds to me like the selma movie is moving but not necessarily ground-breaking. suits best picture more than best director.

liked the imitation game and birdman myself but haven't seen all of the movies.

i guess i will have to go and see the hawking flick although he strikes me as probably a bit of an asshole in real life. (equal opportunity abuse!). i get bored of the press adulation. is he really the world's greatest physicist or just the one whose story the media finds sympathetic and compelling? he must be a genius because he has motor neurone disease rather than he is the greatest physicist because of such and such an accomplishment.

in terms of historical inaccuracy, i think throwing in a hawking love story rings a bit hollow. same goes for the imitation game. that model of eccentric but loveable genius plot has been overdone.
