HTC Corporation Purchases MMP Portfolioâ„¢ License
Finally..................
SAN JOSE, California – 8 January 2015 – Alliacense announced today that it has successfully negotiated an MMP Portfolio license agreement for HTC Corporation. The deal resolves the patent infringement lawsuit initially brought by HTC, ASUSteK and Acer as a declaratory judgment action in 2008.
In 2013 HTC’s Products were found to infringe all asserted claims of the US 5,809,336 patent by a jury in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. HTC’s co-plaintiffs, ASUSteK and Acer had already purchased MMP Portfolio licenses by the time the case eventually went to trial. The infringing HTC products used microprocessors from Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, Samsung and others.
The US‘336 patent is one of several patents that are part of the MMP Portfolio™. In addition to the jury verdict over HTC in U.S. District Court, the MMP Portfolio has survived seventeen re-examination challenges before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Currently there are additional proceedings in U.S. District Court, alleging infringement of the MMP Portfolio™ against Barnes & Noble Inc., Garmin Ltd., Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., LG Electronics, Nintendo Co. Ltd., Novatel Wireless Inc., Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., and ZTE Corporation.
In order to protect the investments of the MMP Portfolioâ„¢ licensee community, the successful MMP Portfolioâ„¢ Licensing Program has been dramatically enhanced with aggressive enforcement activities.
HTC joins a roster of over 100 MMP Licensees that include some of the world’s largest electronics companies, including Hewlett-Packard, Oracle, Sony, Apple, General Electric, and Ford Motor Company.
