yes. we need to stop pretending this isn't a moslem issue.
i would guess the percentage of potentially violent extremists is much smaller. but relative to other religions, the percentage is huge.
islam spits these people out. it spits them out everywhere, so we can't say this is an issue of the environment they inhabit. it is a feature of the religion and not of location or the wickedness of everyone else.
so this is a moslem problem. although i agree we should generally pretend it isn't so that stoopid racists don't react in a way that is counter-productive. hypocrisy is important! we don't want to see nazism emerge.
even so, the problem has to be solved. and the only way i can think of to solve it is to see a new islam emerge. let us call it the mosque of england model. we need to make a new western version of islam that removes its sharp teeth.
let us learn from what happened within christianity. where it gives primitive or poor advice, argue that it should be read as allegorical or contextual rather than literal. tether its structure to the state and control appointments of its leaders.
we want a different islam. we need an evolved version. how can we fast-track that evolution?
