I worked with a fellow who was decorated for heroism and accomplishment in Afghanistan by both the Soviet Army and the U.S. Army. He is a former Russian officer recruited into the U.S. Army. After many tours, his advice re Afghanistan was "Get out". I asked him to explain or expand, but he just repeated "Get out".
I wanted to help him right a book or novel about Afghanistan, but he was too occupied with extensive medical procedures. I have since lost track of him.
