just looked up the absolute numbers. us military spending in absolute terms is as much as the next 9 biggest spenders.

so it is a lot. but not what it was.

hi orda,

there's no doubt that the us is a military goliath. but bear in mind that chinese spending is catching up fast as its economy grows.

at present rates of growth, i would hazard a guess that china's military expenditure will equal us expenditure within 10 years or so.

also, us spending on its military has reduced from 4.7% to 3.8% of GDP since 2010.

so although these statements about us expenditure may once have held true, i am not sure they do currently.
