Ya ain't too bright, is ya, zz.

Returning to 1960's technology . . when we know there
are better ways of doing things is asinine.

Space-X and their 'Dragon' is a better choice than
an upgraded Apollo space capsule.

Burt Rutan and his Space Ship One would be even better -
if it were designed to go all the way to the I.S.S.

You wanna go to Mars? Build the crew module, send it
up and dock it with the I.S.S. Build the booster
rockets to send it to Mars and back, send that up and
dock it with the crew module. Send up the crew, go to
Mars, bring them back and dock again with the I.S.S.

Wanna go again? Send up fuel, supplies, another booster,
and the crew and off they go.

I just can't see it as being sensible to send all the
stuff necessary to return the astronauts to Earth, all
the way to Mars and back.

Zim.

"Members of the US House and Senate don’t dream wistfully of space exploration or epic human achievement, of clinging on to an asteroid or visiting Mars. Politicians love whatever makes more jobs and gets them re-elected. What makes it even better for them is that they can steer federal cash to their districts and chalk it up to love of science and patriotic zeal.

Friday’s Orion launch was a galvanizing moment for the traditional, government-led spacecraft movement in the United States. This Bush-era program was decried as wasteful and directionless spending – a “rocket to nowhere” – and cancelled four years ago. But the Empire rallied and revived Orion and the massive proposed rocket that’s supposed to propel it to deep space. After all, the Death Star wasn’t built in a day; it was devised by some very talented engineers. And from their point of view, it’s a shame anyone would blow it up."

Funded by Congress that wants the pork. But, we can't kill space, and wasting money on our own taxis to the space station is baloney.

So, till then, ....blame Bush and the porkers.
