Per the St. Louis Police Department, a 26-year-old St. Louis woman died Friday after she accidentally shot herself in the head with a gun reportedly purchased to defend against potential Ferguson violence.

Becca Campbell and her boyfriend purchased the gun to protect against feared rioters following the impending grand jury decision on Officer Darren Wilson. According to Campbellâ€™s unidentified boyfriend she began waving the gun around in the car, saying she was ready for Ferguson. When he moved to avoid the gun he rear-ended another car and the gun went off, striking Campbell in the head.

She was taken to the hospital but succumbed to the injury.

Police have not yet confirmed the boyfriendâ€™s story, and are awaiting the results of lab tests on the gun.
