I work with a guy from Argentina and he once told this story of how God, when he was making the world, where he paid particular attention to one special place where the climate was perfect, the soil was fertile, the livestock was healthy, the vistas were marvelous, it was indeed perfect in all ways. However, once God had finished this task and he looked around at the rest of the world, it suddenly struck him that this would completely unbalance creation, and so in order to compensate for this, he populated the place with Argentinians.

Argentina's misery started awhile back:

" By 1913, Argentina was the world's 10th wealthiest nation per capita.

Beginning in the 1930s, however, the Argentine economy deteriorated notably. The single most important factor in this decline has been political instability since 1930, when a military junta took power, ending seven decades of civilian constitutional government. In macroeconomic terms, Argentina was one of the most stable and conservative countries until the Great Depression, after which it turned into one of the most unstable."
