SUN

what operating system are you running?
Windows is booting up. You simply cannot see your desktop or the itemson it.

TApping on the F8 key when you first turn on the computer normally gets you a screen that allows you to choose several startup options.
Some are
1. Last known good configuration
2. Safe mode with networking
3. safe mode
4. Start windows normally

My XP does this so I need to know what operating system you are using.

Thanks

Micro,

Hitting F8 doesn't do anything. I'm thinking I need to do a restore - but not sure how at this point. That's why the question about can I and if so, how do I do a restore from the Bios - I can get to the Bios - hopefully I have the right term there - when it starts to boot up.

I do the start-up, the computer goes through boot-up. Small log in window opens up showing Administrator as the user and the password line is blank. I have the password for the administrator disabled, so I just leave that blank and it continues to boot up - can't remember is Windows tries to start before or after the password - but Windows starts up, goes at least through loading personal settings, then my current background for Windows appears, but nothing else appears on the screen - no icons, no quick start bar at the bottom - nothing but the background. All this takes quite a while to happen.

And yes, ArVee, until these issues started, I've not ever had to do the login thing - computer has always started, booted up, Windows starts, and everything is just fine. But not now.

Leading up to this, I noticed Microsoft Excel slowed down quite a bit and had started locking up. I have website that I copy some stuff into an Excel file every weekday morning and the last few mornings before this last issue, Excel started locking up during the paste phase.

I think the computer is actually booting up far enough that folding has started and is running in the background - but I can't see it or tell because all that shows on the desktop is my background. I've deduced that it's running because of the points that show up.

Thanks!

Sun :-)
