The Constitution was not quite as perfect as Tom Jefferson would have it, so his buddy across the valley from Monticello, James Madison, apparently wrote most of it.
A good representation of the Bill of Rights is this summary.
"The Bill of Rights enumerates freedoms not explicitly indicated in the main body of the Constitution, such as freedom of religion, freedom of speech, a free press, and free assembly; the right to keep and bear arms; freedom from unreasonable search and seizure, security in personal effects, and freedom from warrants issued without probable cause; indictment by a grand jury for any capital or "infamous crime"; guarantee of a speedy, public trial with an impartial jury; and prohibition of double jeopardy."
And we can note with great pride that nobody has ever defined what a free human being is better than these two Virginians.
Jefferson and Madison could not guarantee us the right to anti-freeze. Daimler and Rolls and Olds and Ford were not yet making automobiles yet.
Jefferson and Madison did not write these words at Mt. Sinai. The Bill of Rights is not the Ten Commandments.
The bill of rights is not God's words to man.
Any government dedicated to the well being of it's citizenry can not ignore the plague of death that entombs this country due to the widespread distribution of weapons of carnage undreamed of by Jefferson and Madison.
That a nation of free men and women cannot limit the distribution of various weaponry would be an assertion of lunacy.
As we bathe in our own blood we will see the Constitution refined and our rights enhanced.
America is about Jefferson and Lincoln and Franklin.
It is not about Colt, Winchester, and Uzi.
