And Sun, do you mean that it's now prompting for a pw whereas it didn't before?? That wasn't clear to me and would be weird. Although I won't likely solve this, the answer to the password question might trigger something for Micro.

have you tried starting in SAFE MODE????

Tap on the F 8 key when the computer starts up and you should get a screen that lets you start in safe mode...

Highlite that and hit enter and see if your computer will boot up in safe mode.

Ifit does, then you might want to run a scan disk or even do a restore.
