Speaking of power, we had our first black-out today as a result of the heat. At about 3:30pm we lost power in our building. All of the critical systems and servers are on a UPS system and after about 30 seconds our generator kicked in and the entire building was switched over to it (it was still running when I left the office at 5:15pm).

The black-out wasn't very extensive, just affecting the industrial park where our office is located (I have a power company app on my iPhone where you can see details of both planned and unplanned power interruptions in the LA/OC area).

Note that on the drive time home tonight it was 107º at 5:30pm. It's supposed to be back down into the lower 80's and maybe even the upper 70's by the end of the week so we're looking forward to that.

And how would it that California be cut off from imported electricity? I'm sure the our state is not the only one depending on electricity from other states, or for that matter, other countries (ask how much power does New York get from the Canadian side of the Niagara River).
