Senate Votes to Overturn Citizens United

Citizens United may not be long for this world.

The Senate voted 79-18 to advance a bill to overturn Citizens United and restore the right of Congress to establish campaign spending limits via a constitutional amendment.
It would overturn the 2010 Supreme Court Citizens United ruling that allows independent outside groups to spend on behalf of political candidates. The procedural vote means the Senate can start debating the measure, though it’s unlikely to pass the chamber with Republican opposition.....
Don Stewart, a spokesman for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), said Republicans are happy to debate the measure, but "to be clear, there is zero support on our side for rewriting the First Amendment to restrict free speech."
