The conservative “National Review” lamented in an editorial yesterday that Republicans aren’t running on any agenda or ideas this fall but only on Barack Obama's unpopularity, which “does nothing to dispel the public's justifiable doubts about whether Republican rule would be good for the country.” It’s the same playbook the GOP used in 1998 when Republicans urged voters to punish Bill Clinton for his dalliance with Monica Lewinsky. The strategy flopped. Republicans sought to pick up 25 House seats that year but ended up losing five. Obama’s job approval rating is far lower than Clinton’s at this point in their presidencies, of course, but making him the centerpiece of their midterm campaigns is still dumb. As the National Review says, it only fuels the public’s doubts about whether they could ever govern.

To say that "God exists" is the greatest understatement ever made across space and time.
