Well, I just got back from the orthopedist and he says I'm cured, well at least I'm recovering as well as can be expected. They took out the stitches a few days early so I guess that's a good sign but before they did I managed to get a picture:

He also gave me a set of prints of the pictures taken from inside my knee. This one shows the torn meniscus cartilage before it was repaired (this is a scan of a print that he had written some notes on):

Anyway, he said I can return to normal activities except no running or jogging and that I should try to avoid stairs for awhile (not a problem as we live in a single-story house and my office building has an elevator).

Actually it was son #2 when he was much younger (17) and more angry. I stepped in between him and his mother to prevent a much bigger problem and the result was my broken finger (considering what was at stake, it was a small price to pay). I have to say, it put an immediate damper on his anger and he's never raised his voice to his mother since (at least not when I was present). I think it scared him when he realized that people could actually get hurt. It's taken him 26 years and a lot of therapy, including him getting a degree in Psychology, but he's doing much better today. He's still wound a bit tight but he's learned a lot and is putting it to good use. He now an instructor at Le Cordon Bleu where, in addition to bakery arts, he teaches a basic psych class.

BTW, thanks for all the prayers and encouragement as the surgery went fine. I was heading home by 10:00am (3 hours total at the surgical center). So far the pain has been almost nonexistent but the lidocaine is starting to wear off. The procedure was done under a general anesthetic but he shot the incision full of lidocaine to dull the post surgical pain. He said Wednesday would be the worst day. I can walk around with only a cane and I see the doctor on Thursday to get the bandages removed (pictures to follow).

Anyway, again, thanks for all the prayers and comments.
