Robin Williams!
We remember the line from John Cougar Mellancamp’s song “Jack and Diane” where he sings “Oh Yah, life goes on even after the thrill of living is gone.”
Well, sometimes it just doesn’t and we suppose that may be what happened to Robin Williams.
They say he fought addiction for much of his life but all we know is that we were very addicted to the many laughs that he gave us throughout the decades that we got to watch him perform. We don’t know why, but when we think of Robin Williams now we also think of the comedian Jonathan Winters who also fought his share of demons throughout his life.
They say that God will not give you more than you can handle but after so many years perhaps one just gets tired of the whole thing. We had a friend who committed suicide this spring and we thought that he had so much to live for and so many who cared a great deal for him. But, in the end, it simply seems to matter not to those who choose to travel that route. The living left behind try to figure out what they might have done to have prevented what went on and to try to answer the unanswerable questions left in the wake of the catastrophe that has occurred. But, there are really no answers at all. Just an ending of something beautiful and wonderful that is now gone away.
Robin Williams was only 63 years old and there were so many roles left for him to play. But, now, we have what we have and, like fine wine from a vintage that will come no more, we must cherish and drink from the cup that is left for us to always enjoy.
Regards,
Joe
To say that "God exists" is the greatest understatement ever made across space and time.
