Judge Orders New FL Congressional Map
The Florida legislature must immediately meet and come up with a new congressional map, a circuit court judge ruled Friday. The judge gave the legislature until Aug. 15 to do so. The legislature’s lawyers had claimed that fixing the map before the November elections would “cause horrific uncertainty” for the voters.
The judge had ruled last week that the redistricting maps created by the Republican-controlled legislature were invalid and even ruled two of them unconstitutional. He said that the legislative body had allowed “improper partisan intent” and that partisan operatives were “making a mockery” out of it.
