Chicago Worker Shot Boss After Demotion
A disgruntled employee at the supply company ArrowStream in Chicago reportedly tried to kill his boss on Thursday, shooting him in the head and stomach with a 9mm semiautomatic handgun. The gunman, Tony DeFrances, 59, took his own life and was found dead at the scene. The victim, Steven LaVoie, 54, was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and is listed in critical condition. The company had apparently gone through a recent downsizing and police said the suspect had been demoted. The employee had come in and demanded a one-on-one meeting, during which he pulled out a gun. According to a police source, DeFrances and LaVoie had been "friends for years--a congenial relationship between two friends."
