interesting that folks want to complain about my board but can't be bothered to start the one they want to force upon me.

free to replicate this board exactly. just without me in it. it can be all about their ideas. free speech outside the control of a moderator.

seems the complaint is folks want me to put up with listening to them! they think i have an obligation to be interested in their ideas.

ha ha ha.

it isn't about free speech at all. it's about a desire to pollute wherever the heck such folks want. even here. especially here.

because this place doesn't conform with their requirements.

it's about forcing me to hear. like the person who plays his music loud so the neighbours have to listen too.

as if i don't have just as much of a right not to listen to stuff that doesn't interest me.

go forth and be interesting to one another. you guys can make your own version of heaven. talk about the evil of government, how great guns are, how one country is the greatest!

just don't include me. i'm not interested. i set up ths board so i could have a different sort of place. where single issues don't spoil the environment. where i don't have to listen. that's the point.

hear this important message. just because you think you have something to say doesn't mean there is any obligation on me to listen to you. there isn't. that's why i created this space. if i wanted to join in with those sorts of conversations, i'd be posting on the boards where the kinds of folks who want to have them like to chat.

notice. i don't.

y'all are free of me as i am free of you. but unlike you, i respect the divide.

hi j-t,

i'll explain the current venn diagram. i am interested in the remainder of the set that excludes conspiracies, wingnuttery, fundamentalism, gundamentalism, nationalism and propaganda. i want conversations rather than determined and inflexible assertions of those types. the venn diagram may change if folks want to bring here the stuff i avoid by not participating elsewhere. nature of board moderation.

unfortunately, it seems folks who believe those kinds of things are occasionally attracted to this zone of general curiosity. i say, go free speech. there's plenty of space online for folks who want to talk about those things to chat with each other. doesn't mean i do. doesn't mean they should invest this space with their subject matter.

this space is fixed. i can't move it. i set it up. if i didn't have a space to manage i'd move elsewhere. but since i have a space i want folks who have different interests to move along rather than force the conversation on to their topic repeatedly. if you want to talk about one thing over and over, make your own board, find your own crowd.

i also kinda like folks to respect the space and i dislike folks sticking words in my mouth to prosecute their argument. if a person keeps doing it, i know they care little about curiosity and learning. and what i am actually saying.

if someone doesn't like it, that's fine. plenty of space on abob for other kinds of conversation. eg there's space for doma to create a board called conspiracies. everyone who thinks the world is run by a secret cabal can go to such a board and chat together. i'm not preventing it. just isn't my thing and in fact it spoils this place when every damn conversation gets turned in that direction.

if even a light conversation about a guy biting or not biting someone is an excuse to try to restart a conversation about "the 9/11 conspiracy", yet again, then it's time to move that person along. they want to talk about conspiracies. full stop.

why don't they go and do their thing in a space that they set up? is the minute it takes too much effort? heck, i'll even publicise a conspiracy board if it means i don't have to host that conversation here.

i don't remember disqualifying anything you have written. so i am not sure why you sound perplexed.
