Perhaps, but Rupert Murdoch went to court and argued that the 1st Amendment allows newscasters to KNOWINGLY lie on the air, including misrepresenting events and even fabricating the 'facts', and he WON! His argument was that it was NOT the responsibility of a news organization to even try being accurate or truthful, but rather that it was the public's responsibility to decide for themselves what is or is not factual. I guess he was serious when he instituted the Faux News tagline: "We Report - You Decide."
The only thing the judge warned him about was that this did not give him a license to libel or defame individuals.
