Hi doma,
I'm less impressed by Egyptian/Babylonian/Hebrew creation stories which can be interpreted in different ways (ex materia or ex nihil) than I am by Plato, who clearly thought about the origin issue.
But the question of origination is far from providing an understanding of the unfolding process, which is the harder problem.
The Big Bang is an entirely modern theory that explains how the universe opened up from a state in which matter was absent but force was present and in balance.
So we have done a lot more than change a U into an O.
Magical creationism in the tradition of Genesis and Aquinas died as a theory during the scientific revolution.
