You can't assume your opponent will play you in the way you want to be played.
Against Man Utd (away), Mourinho parked the bus and tried almost nothing.
Against City (away), Mourinho set up to counterattack mistakes in midfield.
Against Arsenal (away), he parked the bus but didn't find any useable mistakes to counterattack with.
Against Liverpool (away), he parked the bus and picked off two mistakes.
In my book, the way to play Chelsea when you are at home is to give them the ball deep and let them develop an attack. Draw them forward. Impose a model on them they don't do so well. Guide them into the attacking third without space or pace. And counterattack them when they are not set up in a defensive formation. Otherwise they are always going to have 10 behind the ball in defence trying to feed off their opponents' mistakes, or 6 behind the ball on the break.
Chelsea haven't got a great record against folks who expect to defend. That is, against weaker teams. So use those tactics. Go all West Ham with big units up front.
Boring football. But against a Mourinho team that is playing away from home, it's going to be a boring sort of football regardless. So why risk anything?
