hi tkc,

i think that with the us constitution, if you create a static target, incumbent interests will get around the protections and will infiltrate the structure of government.

the stability of constitutional architecture that the founders craved has emerged as a vulnerability. money has tested it. money won.

this has led to a crisis of trust. people wonder if their current and future interests are represented. or if incumbents always put a slope on the field of play.

to use the language of security: if it isn't popular will, where's the root of trust in the us constitution?

is it the words and principles enumerated in the document? no. these are the fixed target for incumbent interests.

is it the supreme court? no. while their interpretations grant some flexibility, they are not responsible for the politics. the supreme court was even unable to resolve the issues of slavery long after they were dealt with elsewhere.

is it the president and congress? no. these are partisans whose policies are subject to incumbent influence.
