"Call me a cynic, but I prefer to try to avoid falling into the Russian trap of promoting divisiveness in Ukraine."

I believe the West has been funding this divisiveness
since 2004....a puppet at a time of which Tymoshenko
was but one......the latest was a Russian puppet so
the West funded another coup & put their puppet back
in charge......

I wonder who released that tape and whether its contents are authentic. Perhaps you are playing into the hands of Putin's propaganda machine by pursuing this angle. We do know whose interest is in division between Russians and Western-leaning Ukrainians.

The thing I know about Ms Tymoshenko recently is that she was released from prison.

I don't think she's in power. Indeed, the quote seems to indicate she is gabbing with someone about what she would have done if she was involved. That seems to indicate she was not.

Okay. I get that Russia wants to discredit her and I also get that she may be wild. But shouldn't we be building our opinions about the person who is actually in charge? Perhaps he is the kind of person who Ukrainians want to lead them. The tape seems to indicate he approaches things differently from Ms Tym.

He may have some relationship to Ms Tym and even share some political beliefs (eg Go Ukraine) but yet be rather different in the weeds. I hope so. If he starts saying things about wanting to pop off nuclear weapons on ethnically Russian Ukrainians then we have a problem.

I know that there was a revolution by a large chunk of the people of Ukraine against the former, corrupt, Russian stooge. I kinda support their wish for a less corrupt political system (although I understand the difficulty of being pulled two ways) and I hope they have a decent person to represent them. That is, all Ukrainians.

Call me a cynic, but I prefer to try to avoid falling into the Russian trap of promoting ethnic divisiveness in Ukraine. Everything I hear is that the current administration is inclusive. Long may that continue.
