One of the lowest points in the GOP's primary circus of 2012(so many to choose from) was the Teaparty crowd's response as to what the Republican solution was for uninsured (health) American's. The Teaprty crowd shouted in unison, and with great relish "die die DIE". The embarrassed candidates barely demurred.
Now we see the political manifestation of that policy playing out in Georgia. This is no longer mere right wing political rhetoric from the fringe, this is a real call to action. Georgia is losing rural hospitals at an alarming rate. The proximate cause of this loss is the Reagan edict requiring ER's to perform life saving services without regard to payment ( also maternal deliveries). Small hospitals, located primarily in poor rural areas cannot absorb the costs. Georgia turned down the medicaid expansion benefits which would ahve saved these hospitals. Now the Governor of Georgia, John Deal(R), has called on the Georgia delegation move to repeal Reagan's edict for ER's to serve all patients. He wants the poor denied access to medical care in the ER.
Is genocide to strong a term to describe Deal's desires? Is it not totally consistent with right wing political philosophy? Whenthe right tells the poor to "die", they are dead serious.
