While it might sound like deflation would be a desirable situation, try telling the people who make monetary policy that. When I said "central bankers" I was NOT talking about the people making car loans or writing mortgages.

They shouldn't.

Inflation means the dollars they get back from a loan
are worth less than what they loaned out.

Deflation means the dollars they get back are worth
more than what they loaned out.
