I believe Christie said he was unaware, until he read about it in the WSJ.

Last Friday, Wildstein told the NYT that, contrary to Christie’s claims, the governor did in fact know about the lane closures as they were happening

(Christie had repeatedly claimed that he did not know about the closures until after the lanes were reopened). 
Lending credence to Wildstein, a few hours after the allegation Christie changed his story and admitted he knew about the closures as they were happening, and had thus apparently lied to the public, and investigators, for months.

I don't recall Christie saying he was unaware of the Fort Lee traffic problem. Am I mistaken?

He did say he was totally unaware that anyone on his staff was involved in orchestrating the problem.
