I don't recall Christie saying he was unaware of the Fort Lee traffic problem. Am I mistaken?

He did say he was totally unaware that anyone on his staff was involved in orchestrating the problem.

If this is shown to be true that the two of them were in the same helicopter and that it flew over any part of the traffic back-up, Christie's goose is cooked. He'd be lucky if he avoided being impeached. And all of this would be played-out through the 2014 elections and the run-up to the 2016 presidential race. Can you imagine the panic that would ensue...
