"...the committee is also seeking whether the Republican governor flew with then-Port Authority official David Wildstein..."

If this is shown to be true that the two of them were in the same helicopter and that it flew over any part of the traffic back-up, Christie's goose is cooked. He'd be lucky if he avoided being impeached. And all of this would be played-out through the 2014 elections and the run-up to the 2016 presidential race. Can you imagine the panic that would ensue...

Christie bridge scandal: Panel looking into whether governor flew in helicopter over Fort Lee

TRENTON — The state legislative committee investigating the George Washington Bridge scandal is looking into whether Gov. Chris Christie flew in a state helicopter over Fort Lee at the time of last year's controversial lane closures, according to a source with knowledge of the probe.

The source, who is not authorized to speak about the investigation, requested anonymity.

The panel may issue a new set of subpoenas after meeting today, and that could include a request for Christie's helicopter logs, the source said.

Meanwhile, the New York Post reported today that the committee is also seeking whether the Republican governor flew with then-Port Authority official David Wildstein, the former Christie ally who is credited with orchestrating the controversial closings.

But Colin Reed, a spokesman for Christie's office, told The Star-Ledger that Wildstein has never shared a helicopter with the governor.

Christie's office has faced intense scrutiny for the unannounced lane closures at the nation's busiest bridge last September, a move that caused days of traffic jams in Fort Lee. Democrats accused the Christie administration of hatching the plan as political payback because Fort Lee's Democratic mayor declined to endorse the Republican governor for re-election last year.

On Jan. 8, an email surfaced showing Bridget Anne Kelly, Christie's deputy chief of staff, appeared to have advance knowledge of the closures. "Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee," one message read.

Christie fired Kelly and apologized for the matter, but he has repeatedly said he did not know of the closures until after they were over and reported in the press.
