Not sure if this is the same bracelet they were talking about, and here's an explanation dated July 2004.
ANDREW DENTON: You were raised to be an optimistic man by your mother. Do you have as much faith in humanity now as when you took office?
BILL CLINTON: More. Oh, more. How could I not? You know, the whole...you know, power structure of the Republican Party, the Congress, the Special Counsel, came down on me, the press was hounding me and baying like dogs at the moon and saying I was dead as could be, and the American people stayed with me. And then, after that passed, we had two of the best years of my presidency, in '99 and 2000, from the point of view of the American people. And the way I've been treated by people since I left office...how can I not? I believe I'm more optimistic today, and more idealistic today, than I was the day I took the oath of office as president in 1993.
ANDREW DENTON: Is that bracelet you're wearing on your right wrist a reminder of that?
BILL CLINTON: Yeah. This is a welcome bracelet from Colombia. It was given to me by children who sing and dance for peace against the narco-traffickers and their guerilla supporters who control one-third of Colombia. These children live on the edge of the violence and they risk their lives to sing for peace. Their sponsor, the Culture Minister, was murdered because she helped them. And then the woman's niece became her successor. The Colombians are brave people. They have it much harder than the Americans, much harder than almost any people on earth, and they carry on with life and believe in its possibilities. So whenever I feel a little bit down or pessimistic, I...look at this bracelet and remind myself that it's not so bad after all.
