It's just handbags at the moment.

The good news about history is it shows us examples of what not to do.

Plus, the war began because of a random tangential act (the assassination) that triggered a unique chain of dominoes that ended with a war almost by accident.

So if we are looking at something similar, we'd first need to ignore the precedent and then we'd also need a random chain of events to lead towards war by accident.

One thing this means is that the history doesn't make a reliable prediction for the future.

The 1914 thing strikes again.....

"the Chinese have struck back specifically at Abe's comparison of China and Japan's present tensions to Germany and Britain's in 1914..."

"On the heels of Shinzo Abe's seeming hyprocrisy in Davos, commenting that "if peace and stability were shaken in Asia, the knock-on effect for the entire world would be enormous," while he raises military budget, antagonizes China, and inflames the militaristic fervor in his own nation with war-crime shrine visits, the Chinese have struck back specifically at Abe's comparison of China and Japan's present tensions to Germany and Britain's in 1914... Foreign Minister Wang Yi - writing from the Chinese Embassy in the US, warned"
