Vision looks to the future and describes in hope a direction whose destination may or may not be possible to reach.

Observation looks to the present and describes a starting point whence a person must begin their journey into the future.

A person with vision but who doesn't observe only engages in fantasy. A person who observes without vision will have no sense of direction.

It is useless to look at a map and know where you want to end up if you have no idea of where you are starting and the country that lies in between you and your destination.

It is also worthless to have a map and to know where you are but not where you want to be.

In order to have a worthwhile vision, first you need to observe where you actually are, then you need to understand the landscape you intend to venture through. The refusal to do these things makes a person not a visionary but a hopeless romantic.
