My take on Afghanistan is that presdent Obama felt that the Afghan theater had been ignored by the Bushies n favor of Iraq so he wanted to pump up the troops there to see if there was any chance of changing the outcome. After five years, it is time to get out and Obama has set the time table for that to occur this year.

As far as Republicans having respect for Obama, none of them do mainly because of the color of his skin. However, we will see if Hillary does any better with them if she is elected to 2016. They have an agenda that transcends people and individual politicians. And, I am sure that you remember that they didn't get along with Bill Clinton very well either when he was in office. At least they haven't impeached Obama yet. We wil see what happens in that regard if the Republicans win the senate in 2014.

IOVHO,

Regards,

Joe

Hi Joe,

I've always been a fan of Sec of Defense Gates. I think he truly cared about the troops, deeply. And respected his professionalism & compassion.

I must say, his decision to put this book out while Obama is still commander in chief is disturbing.
He gave me the impression he had more sense & patriotism then to do this, especially with troops still in harms way.

That said, its always been my belief that Obama needed to 'look tougher' on Afghanistan since he was opposed to Iraq. I've NEVER believed Obama thought adding more troops there would accomplish much.
In that regard, Obama is a huge disappointment!

As far as Hillary goes, I'm sure she had/has a delicate dance with her relationship with Obama. That goes both ways. I think Hillary is more political than Obama. I also think she has the abilities to work better with others including those across the aisle. She's proven that as NY Senator.
Obviously Gates has respect for her, so does McCain & other republicans.
I can't think of any republicans in congress who respect Obama.

Hillary & Bill both enjoy politics, I don't think Obama does.
