Actually,
I am looking for 2014 to be an 'Ugly' year.

I expect the stock markets to go down . ..
. . (partially from the easing off of QE infinity.)

I look for interest rates to go up . . .
. . (as with the easing of QE)
. . This will make bond prices (and bond funds) go
. . down.

In short, I expect my portfolios to go down in overall
value.

Now, everything I own pays dividends . . if most of
them continue to pay out (and I think there is a good
chance all of them will) . . between them and my
paycheck I'll have funds to buy more - cheap. Three
of four years down the road I should be sitting pretty
and able to retire. (When I turn 60.)

Unless, of course, the socialists amongst U.S. manage
to steal everything not nailed down.

lastly, OCU, I am relying on you to recognize which
political critters are thinking about 'Nationalizing'
our IRA's and 401K's and castrating the skunks.

Zim.

Note that the figures I provided relative to my 401k was the return on the investment itself. This did NOT include the contributions made by myself nor the employer matching, that was above and beyond the nearly 13% that the account returned. And it's true that it did not perform as well as the S&P, as it did include that rather large (nearly 40%) money market hedge. Granted, if I had put it all in an index fund I might have done much better, but 3 years ago if I had put all my money into one of the international growth funds that I was only putting 10% of my new money into at the time, I could have had a return of nearly 70%. Of course, this year, that same fund barely returned 5%. But then that's why you diversify isn't it?

Anyway, I'm glad to see that you too are satisfied with your investment decisions and I hope that this coming year will be as rewarding for you, if not more so.
