ArVee,

Uninstalled AVAST, ran Malwarebytes. No viruses from full scan. Not sure if it is running at all in the background or can I activate it without buying it? Folding is running well for now.

Too bad about AVAST. Maybe they will fix the problem. Seems these free things go commercial after a while. I have AVAST on all my laptops.

The other desktop, the one with the Titan video card is sitting idle for weeks now. Has a hardware problem. I don't have the equipment substitutions or know-how to test it. I know micro is busy.

Hi BAP, Micro's better at this than I am but he's pretty tied up launching his new career so if you wish I'll step in temporarily at least on a basic level.

If that pc's not used for much and it's at least folding right now let's see how that goes and where we go from there. In the meantime, let's at least get rid of Avast so that black screen never happens again, even by mistake, agreed? Don't uninstall using where I'd normally point you, into the Uninstall within the program itself, otherwise you're just going to get black again. Use instead the Add and Remove Programs function from within Windows Control Panel. That should wipe it almost as well.

Now what, you say, I'm sitting here exposed. Well I'm totally happy with a simple efficient and free AV product called Malwarebytes. Google it, d/l and install and see if you enjoy its reliability and simplicity.

That's probably enough for now, let's get rid of the garbage, get you covered again immediately and see if all this is maybe virus. Probably not, but let's do it and see where we stand.

Here's some consolation for both you and Sun, I know this has been going on for a while, but if you had to be totally down for two days as you were, then these last two were the two to do it. Stanford had their gpu server(s) down on Thursday and then chose Friday to shut down communication via their 8900 server so they could generate some more Core_17 projects work. I was essentially down with youse guys and there was nothing wrong here! Well nothing wrong with the pc's anyway, let's put it that way, lol.

Anyway have a look at those suggestions, BAP, and see what we can do about getting your firepower at least loaded again.
