I've never done drugs. Only smoked cigarettes for about 3 months in high school but did smoke cigars, but only socially, while in college. Did drink some beer in high school, and beer and liquor in college, but now only a beer once in awhile and again, only socially. The only 'pot' I've ever 'done' was via secondhand smoke in college and more recently, at a couple of poker games a few years ago with an old, and now deceased, boss and some other co-workers.

However, our sons have had more issues. The oldest is fully hooked on nicotine while number 2 kicked smoking about 6 years ago and has never started-up again, but has to watch his drinking, which he has been doing pretty well for the last few years. It's our youngest who has smoked or huffed just about anything that you could think of, however he got 'religion' after he and his wife hit bottom when they lost their daughter two years ago. He's been clean for close to 9 months now and has even stopped smoking although he does use an E-cigarette but claims he's down to almost no nicotine. So I guess things could be a lot worse.

Anyway, have a Happy one and good health for the coming year.

KTC:

I agree with your son & would include alcohol.
When you abuse drugs & or alcohol you ruin your life & the lives of loved ones.

Alcohol was my drug of choice for about 3 years. I dabbled a little with drugs when I was drunk & my fears were numbed.

Sunday I celebrated 30 years of recovery.
My youngest son was there to bring up my cake. In the car he said, "Mom I so proud of you. I don't know how you do it?"
I told him, a day at a time. No matter what mistakes I make today they are NOT going to be the type of mistakes I could make if I was drinking.

My prayer is that he too will know the freedom from alcohol. He hasn't had a drink for nearly 2 months. He's doing it on his own. He deserves a support system too.

Off to a meeting ;)) be back later.
