Are they really?
Or are you quoting liveral stupidities again?

Medicare Fraud Costs Taxpayers More Than $60 Billion Each Year

http://abcnews.go.com/Nightline/medicare-fraud-costs-taxpayers-60-billion-year/story?id=10126555

A four month "Nightline" investigation into Medicare fraud makes one thing perfectly clear: this is a crime that pays and pays and pays. The federal government admits that a staggering $60 billion is stolen from tax payers through Medicare scams every year. Some experts believe the number is more than twice that.

Fraudulent pharmacies, clinics and medical supply companies seem to pop up like mushrooms in South Florida, the area widely considered to be ground zero in the fight against a crime that requires little training and involves few risks.

"1.) Health Insurance is NOT health care."

I agree 100%. So lets do away with Health Insurance all together and just go straight to a single-payer system. And whether you like it or not, that is the direction that we're headed when you consider the number of people already on Medicare, Medicaid, VA Medical, etc. Perhaps we should just have Medicare 'Part E' (BTW, this idea goes back to well before Obama was even running for president):

"2.) The federal government is the wrong place
. . . to be implementing such grand schemes."

Compared to the overhead costs of private health insurance companies in America, programs like Medicare are downright bargains; 2% for Medicare and 17% for private insurance companies (and that doesn't even include marketing expenses or the profits earned by insurance companies).
